Leveraging trainee experience abroad
Simon headed the roll-out of MyBWS for the UK courier service during his trainee rotation in Manchester
As an international Blue Water trainee, our trainees get the chance to work abroad in the second year of their traineeship after working in their home country to develop their skills further on a more global level. Danish trainee Simon Olsen had worked in Taulov in the Sea Gateway, where he gained experience in sea freight before leaving for Manchester, where his second trainee year began.
He started in Manchester’s Sea & Air department and was given the opportunity to help expand the UK courier service. “As we have seen an increase in enquiries for smaller packages in the UK, it was necessary to expand our services. With the roll-out of customer booking system MyBWS Simons go ahead attitude was key to get us onboarded to the system,” says General Manager Sea & Air UK Markus Klinge Knudsen.
MyBWS was a new product for the Sea&Air department in the Manchester office, but as Simon gained useful experience in Taulov, he was well-prepared to handle this task. Simon enjoys the complexities of logistics and navigating the intricacies of implementing the system together with his new team. “The team here in Manchester are very supportive, they gave me full support, ownership and permission with the roll-out,” adds Simon. His steadfast dedication quickly established him as a key figure in merging MyBWS.
Throughout the launch, there was one courier shipment that stood out for Simon. "There was an urgent delivery of some original shipping documents from a new customer we were onboarding. Our team set out to personally collect the shipment that afternoon and deliver it early the next morning". The team's flexibility in handling a last-minute shipment, collected late PM and delivered early AM, strengthened important business relationships.
As MyBWS gains traction in the UK, the Manchester team and Simon look back on a valuable collaboration. With Simon's commitment to excellence and learning by doing, he enters his final months of his traineeship with more projects to gain experience from.
