How Danitech cut up to 85% off their CO2 emissions

Case

The main reason we switched to Blue Water was our commitment to the green transition. They calculated that we could reduce our CO2 emissions by 75 – 85% by switching from road to rail on our route from northern Italy

Just as cars are transitioning from fossil fuels to electricity, the production of machinery is also evolving. At Danitech, they too are experiencing an increasing demand for electric powertrains that are integrated with hydraulics and telematics (IoT).

An example of this is the sweeping machines used in many public parks. Electric drivetrains control the propulsion. Hydraulics rotate the broom heads. Telematics send data to the owner, ensuring optimal service and digital monitoring. And this is where Danitech's unique expertise comes into play – they are specialised in integrating the different subsystems.

An increasing focus on sustainability

Danitech also specialises in developing machine components for the recycling and waste management industry. For their customers, they have developed an intelligent hydraulic and telematics system that informs of when to empty waste compactors and balers. This saves customers money and reduces transport emissions.

"As it is expensive and resource-intensive to send lorries out to empty half-full compactors, we have developed a system that indicates when the machine needs emptying. It is a win-win situation because the customer saves money, and you do not have as many lorries on the roads unnecessarily," Rasmus Iversen, Head of Business Development & Marketing at Danitech.

Sustainability is deeply embedded in the company's business practices, as evidenced by their new, self-sufficient production facility. So when they wanted to extend their commitment, it was a no-brainer for Danitech to look at their transportation needs.

Lean about our solutions for more sustainable transport

Significant savings

A highly important part of Danitech's supply chain consists of importing machine components from northern Italy to Denmark, making this the ideal route to optimise. Blue Water's experts calculated how they could reduce CO2 emissions by switching from road to rail from Italy to Padborg. From there, the goods are transported by road to the production facilities in Haderslev.

“The main reason we switched to Blue Water was our commitment to the green transition. They calculated that we could reduce our CO2 emissions by 75 – 85 % by switching from road to rail on our route from northern Italy,” Birgitte Knudsen, Purchase & Freight Coordinator at Danitech.

The worries have disappeared

But can you trust that your goods will reach their destination when transporting by rail? The reliability of rail transport was initially a concern for Danitech, but this quickly dissolved as they experienced consistent delivery successes. “The biggest challenge is if something happens on the track which then causes a delay. In such cases you cannot just have your goods pulled out and transported by road instead, for example. But since January, we have only experienced delays two or three times. We were really worried that it would be a challenge, but our concerns have been put to rest,” says Birgitte Knudsen.

In addition to the change of transport mode, Danitech also had their objections to switching to Blue Water. In fact, they were happy with their existing logistics partner.

"I had some concerns at the beginning. Will things arrive on time? Do they know who to contact if there is a problem? But Anders, who works in Blue Water's Italian department, speaks Italian. It just makes the dialogue easier, and I also have the impression that our suppliers have had a positive experience of the change," Birgitte Knudsen.

Birgitte adds that the most noticeable difference since the switch has been the improved customer service and more competitive prices. She receives regular updates from Italy, which keeps her informed and prepared for any delays.

A good collaboration with strong relationships

If Danitech were to recommend Blue Water to others, they would focus on customer service, professionalism and good relations.

“As a customer, we are at the centre - at least that is how I feel when we get together. For example, at a Blue Water event I attended recently. We get invited to interesting lectures, and it makes good sense for our collaboration," says Birgitte Knudsen.

Danitech and Blue Water have several things in common. Both are family businesses with strong local roots, where local initiatives – and especially sports – are prioritised and supported. Our collaboration thrives on shared synergies and strong chemistry, forming a robust and trust-based relationship. We look forward to growing our partnership.
