Carefood’s products are distributed with an unbroken cold chain

We can trust our products to be in safe hands with Blue Water’s employees and reefer trailers, and Blue Water also takes responsibility in the dialogue with the suppliers upon collection and in the coordination

For the speciality retailer of high-quality food products, a reliable supply chain is essential. Carefood has for almost 30 years distributed refrigerated niche products such as ice cream, cakes, toppings, savoury snacks and tapas products from various, global manufactures to wholesalers and foodservice companies in Northern Europe and Scandinavia.

To ensure and maintain the high level of food safety and quality, Carefood depends on a reliable supply chain with constant focus on keeping the right temperature all the way – through every step of the transport. For eight years, the company has trusted Blue Water with the majority of their refrigerated products transported by road in Europe.

“Our philosophy is to be the best and preferred importer and supplier within our market, so we are committed to food safety and quality. Naturally, our partner within transport and logistics must be part of this ambition for us to be able to succeed and live up to our customers’ expectations”, says Ivan Jensen, CEO and owner of Carefood.

A high and reliable level of service

Before Carefood came to Blue Water, the company had been with larger transport and logistics providers. However, these collaborations had offered workflows through multiple partners and large fluctuations in rates. Ivan Jensen joined professional network with a representative from Blue Water, who had invited Carefood for a dialogue about their needs and how Blue Water could accommodate them.

“To us, it’s not only about pricing or rates; it’s about a high and reliable level of service. We can trust our products to be in safe hands with Blue Water’s employees and reefer trailers, and Blue Water also takes responsibility in the dialogue with the suppliers upon collection and in the coordination. Their IT booking system is useful and offers EDI when we are ready to integrate our own web shop”, explains Ivan Jensen.

During the last 15 years, Carefood has grown a lot, increased sales and market shares as well as added products to the shelf, today offering more than 1,000 products within sweet and savoury niche foodstuffs and catering articles. This development calls for an agile collaboration with the transport provider as the need for a flexible supply chain is urgent to meet market demands:

“At Blue Water, the strong customer focus is one of our core competencies. This is supported by a one-point-of-contact approach where we work closely to make sure that we meet the needs of Carefood and their business model. In this case, we are happy to support Carefood’s growth with our global network of freight forwarders and agents”, says Nuno Furtado, Business Development Manager, Reefer Road.
