Safe and efficient project transport

Blue Water is one of the market leaders and preferred logistics partners for global Floating Production Systems (FPS) projects. Our team of experienced FPS operations specialists play a crucial role in expediting FPS deliveries while controlling costs and minimising delays.

Floating Production Systems face significant logistics challenges, including complex global supply chains, where delays in manufacturing, regulatory approvals and customs clearance can disrupt project timelines. Heavy-lift and oversized cargo handling can add further complications due to the sheer size of FPS components and the limited availability of specialised vessels and port facilities, leading to potential bottlenecks.

With Blue Water, your project will follow the strict offshore schedules, harsh operating environments and complex regulatory compliance by our expert logistics planning, contingency strategies and seamless coordination to keep projects on track.

As the project logistics experts in FPS, our expertise spans across handling FPSO, FSRU, FSO and FLNG projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and on-time project execution in the most challenging offshore environments.

Transport of 15 topside modules

USE CASE

Blue Water completed the third collaboration with Yinson Production, showcasing confidence in Blue Water's technical expertise and local knowledge. The project involved the transportation of 15 topside modules for the FPSO Agogo project.

The largest module, an impressive 37m high and weighing 3300 metric tonnes, was placed directly on the vessels' pre-positioned grillages. These modules were transported across key routes, including Batam, Vietnam and China, where our team ensured seamless operations while offering competitive pricing.

Types of FPS Systems and their unique challenges

FPSO - Floating Production Storage and Offloading

Unique challenges: Topsides module transport, subsea umbilicals, turret mooring logistics

FSO - Floating Storage and Offloading

Key function: Storage & offloading of crude oil

Unique challenges: Mooring system logistics, pipeline connectivity, tanker scheduling

FSRU - Floating Storage Regasification Unit

Key function: Storage & regasification of LNG

Unique challenges: Cryogenic infrastructure, pressurised LNG handling, port compatibility

FLNG - Floating Liquefied Natural Gas

Key function: LNG production, liquefaction and storage

Unique challenges: High complexity in offshore LNG processing, integration with subsea wells, LNG carrier coordination

Full suite of FPS services

We understand our clients’ complex requirements and offers a full suite of services bringing peace of mind to our FPS clients. Blue Water offers:

  • End-to-End logistics planning with early-stage logistics consulting to align with project timelines. This covers route feasibility studies, port selection and contingency planning.
  • Specialised Heavy Lift & Marine transport solutions by coordinating semi-submersible vessels, heavy-lift ships and barges for FPS module transport. This includes safe handling of oversized topsides, mooring systems and LNG regasification units.
  • Customs Clearance & Regulatory Compliance by managing complex customs processes for multi-country sourcing to ensure compliance with IMO, SOLAS and local maritime laws.
  • Expedited Transport & Just-in-Time Delivery, synchronising delivery schedules to prevent offshore installation downtime. This leverages multimodal transport (ocean, air, road) for time-sensitive components.
  • Risk Mitigation & Contingency Planning weather-sensitive routing and alternative transport planning is needed. We further provide emergency response for breakdowns or delays in transport logistics.

Seamless coordination keeps the projects on track

Complex Supply Chain & Global Sourcing

  • FPS units require massive, custom-fabricated components sourced from multiple countries
  • Delays in manufacturing, regulatory approvals or customs clearance can disrupt timelines

Heavy-Lift & Oversized Cargo Handling

  • FPS components (turrets, risers, mooring systems, topsides) are extremely heavy and oversized, requiring specialised transport
  • Limited availability of heavy-lift vessels or suitable port facilities can create bottlenecks

Project Delays & Cost Overruns

  • Offshore projects operate on strict schedules. Any delay in logistics can cascade into costly setbacks
  • Weather constraints, permit delays and vessel availability impact project timelines

Remote & Harsh Operating Environments

  • Many FPS units are deployed in deep water or extreme-weather environments (e.g., West Africa, Brazil, the North Sea)
  • Specialised marine logistics and contingency planning are required for safe and efficient mobilisation

Regulatory & Compliance Issues

  • Different countries have unique maritime, environmental and customs regulations
  • Mismanagement of compliance can lead to hefty fines and project halts

Dedicated on-site logistics support for FPSO project success

To increase efficiency and minimise delays, we locate our experienced Operations Executives directly in our clients' offices, ensuring a hands-on approach to shipping operations, logistics planning and real-time coordination.

Benefits of the on-site logistics support include:

  • Real-time coordination to stay ahead of the project with instant tracking, real-time updates and proactive stakeholder communication.
  • Proactive problem solving by anticipated logistical challenges, optimising shipment planning and resolving potential issues before they impact your project timeline.
  • Closer collaboration by working side-by-side with your team, we ensure smooth integration, alignment with project goals and a seamless logistics experience.

With decades of FPSO logistics experience, we help our clients achieve greater efficiencies, reduced disruptions and accelerated project timelines.

Transport of 9 compressors

USE CASE

Blue Water is proud to have successfully transported 9 compressors for Yinson Production from Poland to Singapore. This complex operation showcased detailed planning and seamless coordination by the Blue Water team. The compressors were transported over a 100-kilometre route during silent hours at night, minimising disruptions to local communities and traffic.

Escorted by a dedicated convoy, the logistics team navigated intricate routes with precision, ensuring smooth and efficient movement throughout the 3-day operation.

How to make the supply chain more sustainable

Insetting

Choosing offerings with reduced emissions during transport

Alternative fuels with reduced carbon emissions and optimisation methods exist for all transport modes. By choosing alternative fuels instead of fossil fuels or turning up the efficiency, it becomes possible to reduce the CO2 emissions by up to 90%, making a real difference.

When choosing to inset, you obtain:

  • Reduction of CO2 emissions
  • Supply chain optimisation
  • Certified reductions

Offsetting

Investing in external sustainability projects through certified methods

Carbon offsetting is used to balance out emissions by paying for emission savings in other supply chains / projects for sustainability. However, this method does not reduce emissions led into our atmosphere. Still, it can serve as an easily accessible way to get started with a more sustainable transport and logistics solution.

When choosing to offset, you obtain:

  • The purchase of emission reductions through e.g. reforestation
  • Supporting Sustainability and Carbon Removal projects
  • Certified compensation
