Transport of Thiess rebuilt mining trucks from Indonesia to Australia

The shipment for Thiess was successfully delivered to Port of Mackay

Blue Water's Australian team recently managed the transport for global mining services provider Thiess’ rebuilt mining trucks, transporting them from the Thiess Rebuild Centre on Batam Island in Indonesia to Australia. A total of 12 trucks were shipped in two phases in 2024, with Blue Water overseeing every step from departure to delivery.

Thiess opened its Rebuild Centre as a hub for the refurbishment of mining trucks and components in 2024. At this facility, used mining truck chassis are stripped, cleaned and fully rebuilt before being shipped to the Australian market.

Quality and handling requirements

Thiess selected Blue Water to transport the first batch of five trucks from Indonesia to its Western Region Maintenance Hub in Western Australia. After the successful delivery, Blue Water was awarded a second contract to transport a total of seven trucks to the Port of Mackay in Queensland, followed by domestic deliveries.

With strict quality and handling requirements, a Blue Water Cargo Superintendent spent significant time at Thiess’ Batam facility to ensure that each truck was safely prepared for shipment. This involvement helped to mitigate potential risks and ensure a smooth transport.

The Blue Water team in Australia managed every detail of the logistics process, including domestic transport from the customer's premises to the port of loading, ocean freight booking, vessel loading and discharge, cargo staging at the port as well as coordination with Australian Customs and the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) to ensure a seamless transition from port to destination.
