The biggest Wind Terminal Operator
Blue Water handles thousands of onshore and offshore wind components each year
Blue Water’s business unit Port Services covers all activities related to Port and Terminal Operations, employing +260 specialists. Today, the company is the largest terminal operator in Denmark and the largest terminal operator globally when it comes to wind-related activities, handling thousands of onshore and offshore components each year.
In Denmark, we manage more than 450,000 m2 terminal primarily supplying the increasing demands for renewables logistics. With long-term OEM agreements out of Esbjerg and Cuxhaven, Germany, we handle all components from received via pre-assembly to loaded onto wind installation vessels.
Globally, Blue Water works with approved subcontractors with whom we have a longstanding relationship. To us, this means that we can implement shipments as per clients’ requirements with quick availability to many asset types within a short notice period. Utilising capacity from multiple subcontractors, we have a large pool of warehouses, trailers, resources, cranes and trained personnel.
Earlier this year, Blue Water entered a new agreement with Novaporte, Canada, for a new energy hub on North Americas East Coast, acting as exclusive marshalling port operator with signatories committed to jointly carrying out offshore wind development and operational planning of offshore wind port design including marshalling, pre-assembly, logistics and safety.
Creating safe and innovative solutions
Our stevedore foremen – many of whom are experienced former chief officers and captains (master mariners) with heavy lift certification – arrange loading, stowage, lashing and securing of cargo on board the vessels as well as supervise discharge operations. The stevedore services provided by our professional teams include conventional loading, grab discharge, handling of ro/ro vessels and containers by stationary and mobile harbour cranes. Other related services comprise cargo planning, cargo control, project estimates, supercargo assistance and warehousing.
We always ensure that the cargo is lifted, lashed, welded and secured properly, and that everyone on site is safe before, during and after an operation. We have the most modern processing equipment available to ensure precise, efficient and smooth cargo handling.
Working with a zero-incident mindset, we have initiated training programmes on safety awareness at all levels of the organisation to prevent accidents. We believe in a diverse workplace, but when it comes to health and safety, we support a streamlined safety standard worldwide.
From 2021 to 2022, the number of registered accidents decreased by 22%, and the LTIF decreased from 2.07 to 1.55. Lean of all processes and procedures, HSSEQ training and strong documentation also enable us to be ISO certified on primary locations.
