Blue Water opens new facilities in the former bottling plant in Nuuk

To support continued growth in the northern latitudes, Blue Water invests in 9800 m2 facilities in Nuuk

Since the 1980s, Blue Water Shipping has had a local presence in Greenland, and with a total of five Greenlandic offices, Blue Water is today the largest transport and logistics provider. Now, Blue Water can look forward to further growth in a larger facility.

With an investment of more than DKK 100 million, Blue Water has acquired the buildings that previously belonged to the bottling company Nuuk Imeq. The investment is one of the largest in the company's history, marking an important milestone and opening new opportunities for logistics and storage facilities in Nuuk.

"The expansion here in Nuuk will support our ambition to deliver reliable solutions from, to and within Greenland. The extra space makes it possible to receive larger volumes of goods, process and deliver them faster and store more goods on behalf of our customers," explains Lars Vajse, Country Manager for Blue Water Greenland.

Blue Water focuses on local growth and development in the North Atlantic

The purchase of the building, which many in the community have a strong connection to, symbolises Blue Water's continued commitment to Greenland. Nuuk Imeq has great historical significance, and Blue Water is honoured to continue its legacy with a new purpose.

"This investment demonstrates Blue Water's belief in the region's potential and willingness to support Greenlandic growth and development and be prepared for the new infrastructure that will soon be a reality in Greenland. For the same reason, we last year completed the construction of a new office and terminal in Ilulissat. We hope that we can eventually take similar steps in the other towns that we represent in Greenland," says Ole Ulriksen, VP North Atlantic, Blue Water.

The new acquisition allows Blue Water to improve transport services and optimise supply chains across the entire North Atlantic. Last year, Blue Water opened a brand new North Atlantic terminal at the Port of Aarhus, and with the new acquisition in Greenland, both ends of the transport network between Denmark and Greenland are ready to handle increasing cargo volumes.

"With this new facility, we can offer improved warehouse facilities and modern office space that will strengthen our services and co-operation with both existing and new customers. We have invested in the latest technology and infrastructure to ensure that our services are efficient, safe and reliable. We look forward to working closely with old and new customers and partners in our new home," concludes Lars Vajse.

Blue Water will take over the new facilities on 1 October, after which a major refurbishment and rebuilding will begin to adapt the facilities for their new purpose. As the remodelling nears completion, Blue Water plans to invite customers and business associates for coffee and cake at an official inauguration.
